Mistletoe, Viscum album, is a sub-shrub or a hemiparasitic epiphytioid plant. This means it is a plant that develops and lives at the expense of other trees or plants, but not entirely. Indeed, mistletoe takes crude sap but possesses chlorophyll, which allows it to synthesise its own sugars, proteins, etc. In Europe, the Druids harvested it not only for adornment but also for its benefits. They considered it miraculous.
Which part of the plant is used?
To have the most active ingredients and therefore a beneficial effect, the active ingredient is most often found in the form of a mother tincture. A mother tincture is a hydro-alcoholic solution resulting from the mixture of the plant, here mistletoe, and alcohol (ethanol). The mixture is left to macerate for at least three weeks at between 60 and 95 degrees. Considerable effort is made to stir it to extract as many active ingredients as possible. At the end of this maceration, the mixture is filtered and can therefore be used in chemical, homeopathic, or cosmetic formulations.
The leaves or the whole plant are used.
How is mistletoe beneficial?
Mistletoe has vasodilating properties but its leaves also contain polyphenols. These molecules are rich in properties. It is these latter that give mistletoe its hypotensive properties. That is to say, they help to lower blood pressure. Hence the interest in Mistletoe in Circulate cream.
Thus the Mistletoe brings to the Circulate an interesting addition to the’seawater to improve the condition of varicose veins or any blood circulation problems (heavy legs, rosacea, etc.)
